USAID supports South Serbian and Sandžak businesses to participate at the 9th International Agriculture and Drinks Fair in Pristina

On October 20, in Bujanovac, USAID’s Economic Security Program will sign a grant agreement with the Presevo and Bujanovac Development Agency (PBDA) on a PBDA-led project to help businesses in Serbia to get their products onto the market in Kosovo by participating at the 9th International Agriculture and Drinks Fair ‘AGROKOS & DRINKS 2009’ being held in Pristina, on 21-24 October.

National Program for Youth in Entrepreneurship "Junior Achievement" Expands Its Activities

On Friday, September 25, Junior Achievement in Serbia (JAS), with support from USAID’s Economic Security program and the City of Belgrade, is organizing a ceremony marking the kick-off of Junior Achievement activities in Serbia for the 2009/2010 academic year. Tinde Kovač Certović, State Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Michael Harvey, USAID Mission Director, Radmila Hrustanovic, Deputy Mayor of Belgrade, Željko Ožegović, JAS Board Chairman, as well as former JA students will speak at the ceremony.
USAID Partners with Four New Municipalities to Improve Emergency Response

On September 24, 2009, USAID will sign Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with four municipalities to improve disaster planning and emergency response. These municipalities include: Blace, Rekovac, Surdulica and Vladičin Han. Mr. Milan Popadić, Ministry of Defense’s Head of Department for Emergency Situations, Miodrag Marjanović, Head of Department for Emergencies for Jablanički District, and Dušan Todorović, City of Kruševac’s Coordinator of a Group for Emergencies will speak at the ceremony.

Delivery of prizes to Kovacica's Volunteer Firefighting Youth Camp Winners

Earlier this summer, one-hundred young volunteers (aged 14-18) from 10 Vojvodina municipalities have been trained in the skills needed to safeguard their communities against fires. USAID’s Economic Security program supported young people from Bačka Topola, Indjija, Kanjiža, Kovačica, Kula, Novi Kneževac, Sombor, Subotica, Žitište and Zrenjanin to participate in a five-day Firefighting Youth Camp, held in Kovacica between June 22-27. In order to show a token of appreciation for their effort, Michael Pillsbury, Program Director, and Bruce Spake, DAI Vice President, will visit the winning teams and officially deliver awards, in the form of equipment worth $10,000, on Friday, September 11.
