Working with youth to develop marketable skills is one of the USAID Economic Security Program’s priorities.
The purpose of the program is to promote entrepreneurial and business skills among young people in Serbia. The program has three parts with components that compliment each other. The Applied Economics Program provides students with a basic understanding of the market economy system and business operations. Junior Achievement teaches students how to start a company, the basics of the production process, and how to launch and how to promote products and services of the company. Lectures are complemented with a computer-based Management and Economics Simulation Exercise, which helps students gain practical knowledge on company leadership and market competition. Approximately 20 teachers from 12 schools will receive instruction on how to conduct the program.
Many students in Serbia lack access to education opportunities in specialized skills required by today’s labor market, which impedes them in finding a job once they leave school. The Junior Achievement program will create an opportunity for youth to learn about entrepreneurship as a career option and will provide the program participants with skills compatible with current labor market requirements.
