The Junior Achievement program kicks-off in 90 High Schools in Serbia

“The Junior Achievement program provided me with the confidence, knowledge and experience needed to start my own business. I remember back, not so long ago, when I participated in my high-school’s JA program, and wondered to myself whether I would be able to present my business idea in front of 100 people. The JA program made that possible for me,” said Nenad Ristic, an entrepreneur/business owner and former JA student, at a JA promotional event entitled “We Can Change the Future”, held in Belgrade City Hall, on February 18, 2009.

USAID and the Ministry of Youth and Sport Support Local Youth Offices

On Friday, 20 February 2009, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on strengthening the capacities of newly established Local Youth Offices to address issues of youth employment and entrepreneurship. At the ceremonial signing event in Loznica, U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Cameron Munter, Minister of Youth and Sport Mrs. Snežana Samardžić Marković, and the Mayor of Loznica Vidoje Petrović, will address the audience.

Promotion of National Education Program for Youth in Entrepreneurship ‘Junior Achievement’

On Wednesday, February 18, 2009, USAID’s Economic Security program, Junior Achievement Serbia (JAS) and the City of Belgrade are jointly organizing a ceremony marking the kick-off of Junior Achievement activities in Serbia for the 2008/2009 academic year. Michael Harvey, USAID Mission Director, Radmila Hrustanovic, Deputy Mayor of Belgrade, Oldo Vanous, Director of Operations – JA Europe and Željko Ožegović, JAS Board Chairman, as well as a former JA student will speak at the ceremony.
First Public Discussion on Youth Employment and Youth Enterpreneurship

“Young people in Serbia need a flexible economy, able to create jobs and business enhancing environment”, said Michael Harvey, USAID Mission Director, at a discussion on youth employment held at the Faculty of Political Science in Belgrade, on 11 February, and added that “one of the important USAID supported initiatives, that contribute to Serbia’s economic development, is the Junior Achievement program organized by Serbian business leaders themselves, aimed at introducing entrepreneurial skills to secondary schools, and later to faculties, as well, and giving young students the opportunity to get a first-hand entrepreneurial experience”.

Junior Achievement program kicks-off in Five Municipalities across South West Serbia

On Thursday, 29 January, 2009, USAID’s Economic Security program and Junior Achievement in Serbia (JAS) will sign an agreement with mayors of five cities and municipalities in South West Serbia formalizing their commitment and support to the start of the Junior Achievement program in selected schools.
