Tuesday, 30 June 2009 16:25
Over 200 participants worked hand-in-hand during a joint rescue simulation exercise held in Despotovac this May. The success of the mock rescue operation to save victims of a simulated methane explosion at the Vodna coal mine served to illustrate how a well-coordinated response effort by first responders can save lives and ensure that the injured receive urgent medical care immediately. “We wanted to showcase the response effort of all rescue teams and emergency medical units involved in crisis situations, as well as the chain of communication and the overall importance of inter municipal cooperation necessary to execute an effective rescue operation,” said Ljubisa Dobrosavljevic, Deputy Mayor of Despotovac Municipality.

Entrepreneurial wisdom suggests that a good and original idea is much more important than capital needed to start-up a business, as capital can always be raised while a great idea is hard to come by. The assumption that a good business idea is the most important element to successfully kick starting a business, coupled with a can-do attitude and strong work ethic, proved to be true in the cases of two young entrepreneurs, Nenad Ristić, a Novi Sad University Faculty of Technology student, and Nenad Todorov, an Anthropology student at Belgrade University.
Increased Allocation of Funds for Disaster Managemen
Friday, 12 June 2009 14:03
In light of current difficult economic situation, one would expect that funds allocated for preventative measures and timely responses to disasters, in most municipalities in Serbia, would not be treated as a high priority and would have been an easy budget line item to cut. To the contrary, the Preparedness and Planning Team found that most municipalities have either maintained or increased their spending on preventative measures and / or reserve for relief and recovery assistance in relation to last year. This is a direct result of the program’s work with the municipalities in raising awareness of the importance of investing in disaster management on an ongoing basis.
