On Wednesday, October 29, the Tourist Organization of Prijepolje (TOP) is hosting a promotional event to celebrate the achievements and economic progress made in the municipality of Prijepolje and the region as a whole. A visit to rural accommodation providers in nearby Sopotnica will be organized for all participants. Among the keynote speakers will be Ms. Svetlana Slović, TOP Director, Mr. Michael Pillsbury, USAID’s Economic Security Director, a co-organizer of the event, representatives of donor organizations USAID and UNDP PRO program, Ministry of Economy and Regional Development and other regional and national stakeholders.
To help the municipality with its promotional efforts, USAID’s Economic Security program has helped Prijepolje’s tourism industry strategically promote the area as an attractive destination by working with the Municipal Government, the Tourism Organization of Prijepolje and the local business community. The program has organized study tours for accommodation providers from Prijepolje to visit other successful rural accommodation providers in other parts of Serbia, assisted Sopotnica and Kamena Gora accommodation providers participate in the 30th International Tourism Fair, in Belgrade, and has supported the organization of important events for the municipality, such as last year’s European Rafting Cup and the opening of the Vlade Divac museum. To date, the Economic Security program has provided over $350,000 in assistance to businesses and tourist operators to improve the competitiveness of perspective SMEs and tourism associations in Prijepolje.
USAID’s Economic Security program works to promote economic growth in underdeveloped municipalities by working with small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and works to equip Serbia’s youth with skill sets required to compete in a global economy. The program’s youth development strategy concentrates on promoting youth entrepreneurship and increasing the potential for youth employment.
