USAID Mission Director Fritz learns about progress of textile industry in Sandzak

Novi Pazar, July 21: USAID representatives, led by Mission Director in Serbia Susan Fritz, visited Sandzak last week for firsthand updates on the growth of the local textile industry.

Fritz toured Denistar, one of the denim producers successfully branding Jeans from Serbia in Germany and Poland andamember of the local textile cluster ASSTEX.  During the visit, shelearned that projects to modernize production to meet environmental standards and open an ASSTEX wholesale distribution center in Moscow await final arrangement for financial support from the government.

Both projects resulted from PPES- initiated negotiations between ASSTEX and the government of Serbia.  Fritz also met with representatives of the local Youth Office and the Sandzak Economic Development Agency (SEDA) to discuss the new internship activities in Novi Pazar and the region.  Results of the latest efforts to give local youth jobs skills and employment opportunities will be available next week.
