Junior Achievement Serbia (JAS) leads expansion of youth entrepreneurship throughout regionBelgrade, July 15: Organizations from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia learned how to start Junior Achievement programs in their countries during consultations with JAS last week. At a meeting hosted by USAID's Preparedness, Planning and Economic Security (PPES) program, the JAS team shared with their regional counterparts information on starting a JA chapter, applying for funds, program development and volunteer recruitment.

JAS has experienced nearly four years of unprecedented growth – culminating in being one of only seven programs awarded Model Program status by JA Europe – and is now a recognized regional leader in youth entrepreneurship and business education.  PPES has supported JAS since 2007 helping it grow from just 21 schools to 180 schools with more than 5,000 youth participating in 2011.

What is Junior Achievement?

Junior Achievement Serbia (JAS) leads expansion of youth entrepreneurship throughout regionJunior Achievement (JA) is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. Established in 1919 in USA, Junior Achievement programs to this date are implemented in 113 countries around the world, involving close to 9 million students per year.  In Europe, there are 38 JA countries (as well in Serbia) engaging over 2,9 million students.

JA’s programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action, and help strengthen their communities.

JA programs are taught by classroom volunteers recruited from the local business community.  In that way, JA helps prepare our future workforce and serves as a bridge between business and education—future partnership.

Junior Achievement Serbia

Junior Achievement Serbia (JAS) brings the real world to students and opens their minds to their potential, and encourages, prepare and empower young people to succeed in a knowledge-based economy.  JAS is one of the Member Nations in the global net of JA that started with program activities in Serbia in October 2002.  From 2005, JAS is registered as a non-profit, non-governmental organization.
